Toronto LVT Meetup with Chloe Brown

On July 3, 2024, Common Wealth Canada hosted a meetup in Toronto with mayoral candidate Chloe Brown. Chloe is a Policy Analyst at the Future Skills Centre, where she analyzes public-funded workforce and labour market development programs, and a former mayoral candidate who ran on a platform which included land value tax, zoning reform, and community land trusts. She is one of the only Canadian candidates in modern history to campaign directly for LVT.

Entrepreneurs, technologists, public servants, real estate professionals, educators, academics, and artists came together in support of LVT as a way towards a healthier housing market & economy. People came from all over the GTA to hear from Chloe Brown about her experience running for mayor on platform that included LVT, discuss housing policy, and learn about the latest research on LVT in Canada.

We shared some recent work by Common Wealth Canada showing how land value tax in BC could leave most households ahead by income, stall home prices so that incomes can catch up, and fundamentally improve incentives in the housing market to promote better land use and development.
